ACCT 2008

January 30-February 3, 2008

After a wonderful visit with Laura, I was off to downtown Portland for the ACCT Conference. This year was a little different than the past two years because unlike Denver and Boston, I was flying solo. My boss, Gary, decided to sit this one out.

In all honesty, I wasn’t really flying solo. I was the sol person representing the Soderquist Center, but I wouldn’t have to face the whole conference alone. Like in years past, Lynette (my roommate from college and adventure buddy) would be attending the conference as well. This year she was bringing 5 people from Indiana Wesleyan with her. She only brought Leslie last year (who was an absolute riot!). I had a feeling things were going to be pretty wild.

Wild doesn’t even begin to describe. I would have to go as far as saying that things got pretty insane. But what do you expect when you have a clan 7 girls roaming the streets of Portland. In the great outdoors, the group seems pretty small. This group dynamic changed dramatically the minute we walked through a door and became a crowd inside a restaurant or store. Dinner every night was always an adventure. Case in point, Kara discovering a hair in her green beans and Samantha’s dramatic reaction to it that made the tables around us wonder what was going on.
Overall, this ACCT Conference was by far one of the best I had been to. Being around IWU people was only added to the experience as a whole. Oh and just for the record, I gleaned a lot of new ideas for work After all, that was the main reason I was there, right? Right! :)

I'll definitely have to add that to the forever long list of books to read. The last good non-fiction I read was Stolen Lives by Malika Oufkir. It is a really interesting book about Morocco.
